Coronavirus Pandemic – Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands Face Massive 2nd Wave

Though wholly recovered from the initial jolt, Italy has been confronting a massive second wave to the extent that the old peak has already been eclipsed. While the daily cases averaged 3,470 at the peak in March, the average has already reached 4,449 -- a 28% increase -- in the first fifteen days of October. Unfortunately, the average in the last seven days has escalated to a whopping 6,172. Even the 7-day moving average demonstrates an exponential slope for the new wave.

While the second wave in Germany is nowhere as severe as the second wave in Italy, it nonetheless shows the rapidly rising momentum. During the initial peak in March-April, the daily cases averaged 3,960. The daily average in the last seven days -- when the escalation made a rapid upswing -- has hit 4,392. The 7-day moving average even confirms the most recent trend.

The second wave in Belgium is very similar to Italy. The recent rise has been horrific. For example, while the daily cases averaged 1,054 during the initial peak in March-April, the October average has already quadrupled to 4,293. Today, Belgium has experienced the highest single-day case count of 8,271. The moving average trendline confirms the horror.

The Netherlands has been facing the worst second wave in Europe. The sweeping recent upswing makes the initial peak look almost insignificant. The daily cases have averaged a monstrous 18,201 in September-October compared to a now-mere 830 during the initial peak in March-April.

Europe needs to taper to avoid having to run into the next flu season.

Stay safe!
