Coronavirus Outbreak – Percentile Ranking of Countries by Normalized Tests

Given the obvious difference in population sizes, the actual number of coronavirus tests administered cannot be used to compare two countries. For instance, despite far fewer tests by the UAE than the US, it still ranks much higher in tests administered per million population. Therefore, the number of "Tests/1M Population" has been used as the comparative metric.

In developing the percentile distribution table, 53 countries with a minimum 5K cases have been evaluated. Only China has been excluded as it does not report its testing credentials.

Highlights...

1. The UAE is the only country to reach the 99th percentile ranking, with 121K normalized tests, far ahead of the required 84K threshold. Of course, with a population of nearly 10M, they have a way to go to extend the testing to the entire population. Nonetheless, it's a target the western world should seriously consider.

2. Israel and Denmark are the only two countries to have reached the second highest ranking (95th percentile) by exceeding the 46,362 normalized mark.

3. Portugal, Kuwait and Ireland reached the third highest ranking (90th percentile) by crossing the 43,061 normalized mark.

4. Though Spain and Belgium are at the 75th percentile rank, their recent push for increased testing will move them up the ladder soon. Surprisingly, Qatar didn't hit a higher rank.

5. Canada, Russia, the UK and the USA are at the median category. Singapore, at the median, is quite surprising too. Sweden's push for "herd immunity" will soon push them below the median.

Stay safe!
